SHADOWS????
What are shadows?
What causes shadows?
When can you see shadows?
When can't you see shadows?
How do shadows change?
We read a book about shadows and discussed how shadows change.
Change is the topic of our inquiry. We had lots of great discussion and wonderings about shadows and how they change. What better way to discover changing shadows, then to head out into the sunshine and experiment.
We made our shadows LONGER...
We made our shadows SHORTER...
We made our shadows CLIMB the wall...
We made our shadows MOVE and JUMP...
We discovered our bodies block the sunlight casting a SHADOW that CHANGES when we move.
We know that shadows do not happen without LIGHT from the SUN or other kinds of LIGHTS.
Well done Room 22. Super inquiring!
We are a co-ed class of New Entrant students. We work alongside Mrs Henare and Mrs Whitfield in Room 16. Come and have a look at our learning.

Terrible trolls and roaring tigers - Ganya's trip to Wellington
Ganya has been providing us with super photos of her family holiday to Wellington over Labour Weekend. In writing, we have been focusing on the fast words "We went to the..." to help us write stories about our weekend activities.
We all helped to write a shared story based on Ganya wrestling a tiger at Wellington Zoo... not a real one! Some great writing skills were displayed and everyone's obviously been working really hard to improve their handwriting, write their fast words and begin to use initial sounds in words.
Well done Room 22 and thanks Ganya for the great writing ideas!

Ganya's garden and 'News sharing'
Ganya has been busy preparing and planting her vege garden at home recently. Her Mum and Dad kindly sent us photos of the hard work she has been doing. What a great effort!
During 'news sharing' (oral language) Ganya shared with us her time in the garden at home over the weekend. We love hearing about everyone's news in the mornings after the weekend.
We have all been busy writing stories about our exciting weekends recently. I am so impressed with the progress all the students are making with their story writing and handwriting skills.
Well done everyone! Keep up the great work.

The number before.... On number strips
We are learning to say the numbers before, in the range from 0 to 20. We used beans and T-shirt number strips to help us find out.

P.E. Run, jump, throw
Today we participated in a P.E. lesson in preparation for Athletics day in Week 3 of this term. Our focus was on running.
We learned that P.E. stands for physical education. So we are basically learning about movement and sports.
For running we learned to keep our head up and to look where we are running. We learned to keep our arms bent at our elbows (but not too much!) and to have our elbows by our sides. We also learned about what a rectangle is, and how it has four sides. Two long sides and two short sides. We had to stay inside the rectangle while we were trying different running techniques. Lots of new learning for everyone!
